Now Mizuno is launching a newly revamped JPX 919 line with a traditional look and impressive technologies that make the three new models worth a serious look for players of all handicap levels.
To go along with the new woods are new Z Series forged irons. Anyone familiar with the exceptional Z 765 and Z 565 models won’t be surprised to learn that the newest iterations the Z 785 and Z 585 are significantly improved while still offering the same look and feel as the past models.
Available in both white and yellow the new and improved Q-Star Tour ($30/dozen) golf balls are aimed at players with moderate clubhead speeds that desire Tour-like performance with a soft feel and lower price.
Featuring the same Ti51AF Cup Face and lightweight carbon crown as the Z 785 the friendlier model comes standard with a Project X HARDUS Red shaft with an active tip section for higher trajectory shots for a wider variety of players.
Because the Z U85 features a more iron-like design than typical hybrid clubs it can easily be blended with the other Z irons for a truly customized set. Lofts available include 18° 20° 23° 26° and 29° all with UST Recoil 95 graphite shafts as standard.
A combination of extreme foam cushioning and molded traction elements in the sole that can hold any surface provides the kind of comfort one would expect from a premium-priced shoe. A model with BOA’s laceless closure system ($189.99) is also available for those who want a more exacting fit in the heel.
The win his second of the year puts the Ryder Cup hopeful in the FedEx Cup playoffs lead with a solid chance at the $10 million bonus. For his efforts DeChambeau took home a winner’s check for $1620000 as well as 2000 all-important FedEx Cup points.
A slightly rounded toe shape and wider area in the front of the shoe improve traction and comfort while foam sockliners mold to your feet for improved fit. The Sport BOOST 3 is also built with an “Energy Sling” design that helps direct energy transfer more efficiently.
The new Z H85 hybrids are designed with a larger profile for more confidence at address and more overall forgiveness. The same stepped crown design featured on the Z-series fairways is also in play with the hybrids producing a lower CG for improved launch and distance characteristics.
The new TS2 features several design elements that contribute to making it significantly longer than the previous 917 D2 including an extremely thin titanium crown that’s approximately 20% thinner.
In addition the Z 785 comes stock with the exceptional Project X HZRDUS Black shaft which is hand made in San Diego for the utmost consistency (fyi – they go for about $300 in the aftermarket). For those considering this good-looking new stick it promotes a more boring low-spin trajectory and enhanced workability over the non-adjustable Z 585 model.
A significant key to the Hot Metal design is the use of stronger and more expensive Chromoly rather than carbon steel in the manufacturing process. The stronger material allows for a multi-thickness cup face for more ball speed and distance than the previous 900 Hot Metal as well as redesigned sound ribs in the cavity for precisely tuned vibration and feel at impact.
