Featuring the same Ti51AF Cup Face and lightweight carbon crown as the Z 785 the friendlier model comes standard with a Project X HARDUS Red shaft with an active tip section for higher trajectory shots for a wider variety of players.
Other features include a low compression core for excellent feel and low-spin distance on long shots and a 338 speed dimple pattern for less drag improved launch and solid performance in windy conditions. Less sidespin for straighter shots is an additional benefit a wide variety of players will appreciate.
And for those fans of the sneaky good Z U65 utility irons there’s a new and improved Z U85 version that functions equally well from both the fairway and the tee. So check out the new Z Series from Srixon – maybe one will find a place in your bag sooner than later.
This improvement saves weight and lowers and deepens the CG for improved launch and carry distance. As a result of the weight savings in the crown and variable thickness clubface the TS2 actually features the lowest CG of any Titleist driver to date increasing MOI over the previous 917 D2 by as much as 12%.
The Z 585 is slightly more forgiving and features a high-strength steel face insert in the forged clubhead for higher COR and ballspeed at impact. A new internal “speed groove” behind the clubface further enhances face flex across a larger area of the hitting zone for extra forgiveness on off-center hits.
A slightly rounded toe shape and wider area in the front of the shoe improve traction and comfort while foam sockliners mold to your feet for improved fit. The Sport BOOST 3 is also built with an “Energy Sling” design that helps direct energy transfer more efficiently.
This extra degree of strength allows for a thinner more flexible clubface and enhanced ball speed at impact. The thinner clubface along with a new hidden micro-slot in the sole not only increases COR but also expands the effective hitting area across a larger area. The micro-slot also allows for more weight to be redistributed for a lower and deeper CG location yielding improved launch on mid and long iron shots.
As a result the TS2 and TS3 drivers represent a whole new level of speed and distance for the company’s big sticks. In addition are TS2 and TS3 fairway woods which benefit from the “speed project” almost as much as the drivers.
Since then however the JPX 900 models most notable the Forged Tour have been a huge hit with all kinds of players including two-time US Open champ Brooks Koepka.
But when the company introduced the JPX line a few years back some questioned the look of the matte finish and where the new sticks fit in with the vaunted MP line.
Start at address so you can ensure that you have a flatstick that fits your body and posture. Unlike full-swing clubs that droop and bend significantly in a dynamic motion putters stay about the same during the stroke so getting a length and loft that complement your setup is an important first step.
A slight draw bias is created by a removable weight located toward the heel of the clubhead that can also be used for swing weight customization but the Z 585 does not allow for loft lie or face angle adjustment.
